Description of the organisation

The Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEP-C) established in 1993 by the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), one of the largest Research Organizations in the country. The idea was to promote the creation of a third thrust of development on the island, in addition to the agriculture and tourism.  

The main objectives of the Park are: Technology Transfer.

The transfer of deliverables of research and other activities of the Academic Institutions to the industrial applications is promoted by the Centre of Technology Transfer, when on the same time the needs of the market are identified in order to create new research themes.  

Encouragement/Attraction of Companies to the Park.

STEP-C encourages companies to establish their operation on the premicies of STEP-C taking advantage the available technological and infrastructural capacity and the proximity to the largest and most successful research foundation in Greece.

The role of the Park is to create the “Innovative environment” and also to connect the Scientific and Technical capacities of the Research community with the Regional needs.  

Promotion of the Park products.

This is a series of activities in order to promote research deliverables to the market.   Development of an Educational Centre.

This objective is targeted to reinforce and re-train key company members through advanced offerings, while adding the much needed competitive value to the companies, especially in the management area. Regional development.

STEP-C collaborates with regional authorities to promote innovateion and regional development.

Activities

a. Incubation facilities

STEP-C has developed incubation facilities to accommodate small start-ups.  A 4000 sq.m flexible space, equipped with modern infrastructure is available at a very low rent;

b. Technology Transfer;

c. Participation to RTD Projects;

d. Collaboration with regional authorities;

Business and research organisations to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and regional development through training and the participation to different projects.
